Start here - Fight the Blight
Fight the Blight is the nonprofit front door and offers virtual peer-support groups; ask about current fit and capacity from Wayne or elsewhere. The Peer Tree is a separate private-pay pathway; confirm scope, service area, availability, travel, and fees. Unburied is digital peer support, not therapy or emergency support. These are independent options, not endorsements. Confirm access, eligibility, cost, and fit directly.
For immediate danger, fire, rescue, or urgent medical response, call 911. For emotional distress or a behavioral-health crisis, call or text 988 or contact Help4WV. For confidential domestic-violence support, Branches lists a 24-hour hotline and a Wayne County advocate. A cluttered home, by itself, does not establish abuse or neglect. West Virginia 211 can offer current referrals, but a referral does not guarantee assistance, a bed, or placement.

Safety and stability
These pathways serve different situations. Read the labels carefully before calling, especially when a response may involve crisis care, protective services, shelter, housing rules, legal advocacy, or emergency dispatch.

The Wayne County directory lists the Sheriff’s Office at 304-272-6378. This number is not emergency dispatch, a cleanup service, or a housing referral.
Call or text 988, or use online chat, to connect with a crisis counselor. It is a crisis-support service, not local dispatch or a guaranteed in-person response.
Call or text 1-844-435-7498, or use online chat, for confidential support and help finding behavioral-health or substance-use options. Call 911 for immediate physical danger or suspected overdose.
Branches lists full-time Wayne County advocates who can help with safety planning, court advocacy, referrals, and practical needs. Its 24-hour crisis line is 304-529-2382; the Wayne outreach number is 304-272-9035. Shelter availability and location are not promised on this guide.
The state lists a 24-hour intake line at 1-800-352-6513. Use it for a specific concern about suspected abuse or neglect. Clutter alone, without a separate safety concern, does not establish abuse or neglect.

People and practical help
These listings connect the local community with housing, food, behavioral health, benefits, transit, survivor advocacy, disability support, peer support, and practical resources. Ask about current availability, cost, scope, consent, and safety before relying on them.
The state lists the Wayne County office and programs including Medicaid, WVCHIP, SNAP, emergency assistance, LIEAP, utility discounts, adult protective services, homelessness services, and child-care subsidies. Call to confirm the right program, current hours, documents, and eligibility before visiting.
Review or apply for Medicaid, SNAP, and other available assistance through the state portal. Submission is not approval; contact DoHS if you need help with documents or application status.
The state health directory lists the Wayne County Health Department at 304-272-6761. Its published community-health role includes public-health and environmental-health services; call to confirm the specific service, current hours, fees, and appointment needs.
Valley Health lists family medicine and QuickCare in Wayne. Its sliding-fee program says patients at or below 200% of the federal poverty level may qualify for reduced charges; ask about the service needed, insurance, current fees, appointment availability, and QuickCare hours before traveling.
Valley Health lists behavioral-health and recovery providers at its Wayne location. This is qualified care, not a hoarding-specialty service claim. WCCSO coordinates food-pantries using donated food, food-bank resources, USDA commodities, and emergency food resources. Its office is at 3609 Hughes Street in Huntington, not in the town of Wayne. Call before traveling to confirm which current pantry serves your area and what to bring.
The West Virginia Department of Agriculture identifies Facing Hunger Food Bank as the contact for Wayne County residents seeking TEFAP or CSFP information. The state lists TEFAP income eligibility at 185% of the poverty guideline and CSFP for eligible adults age 60 or older. The state currently advises scheduling routine rides at least five business days ahead; call 911 for emergencies.
HUD’s West Virginia page explains how to find a local public housing agency and a HUD-approved housing counselor. Use its locator or call 800-955-2232 to identify the agency that actually serves your address; current waitlists and openings must be checked directly.
HUD offers a search for approved housing counseling agencies and lists 800-569-4287 for help locating one. Confirm the agency’s service area, appointment availability, and any fee before sharing financial information.
The state describes assessment, service planning, and coordination with community organizations when services are appropriate and available. Use West Virginia 211 for current local referrals and confirm eligibility and openings directly; a referral is not placement.
