Our virtual groups give people affected by hoarding and clutter concerns a place to connect from Tampa and other communities. We can help you think through what is happening and what kind of next step may fit.
Call 911 for a medical emergency, fire, or immediate threat. For a behavioral-health crisis, call or text 988 or call 211 for local crisis counseling and referrals.
First conversations
You do not need to know the perfect service name before reaching out. These organizations can help you identify a next step.
The City of Tampa identifies 211 as a free, confidential crisis-counseling and referral line available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Ask about housing, food, mental health, family support, or a local service that can respond to a hoarding-related concern.
NAMI Hillsborough offers free mental-health support, education, advocacy, and peer-led groups for people living with mental-health conditions and their families. It is not hoarding-specific, but it can be a useful place for family guidance, connection, and a supported next conversation.
Safety and stability
These pathways serve different situations. Read the labels carefully before calling, especially when a response may involve an investigation, enforcement, or emergency dispatch.
Florida’s Abuse Hotline accepts reports of suspected abuse, neglect, abandonment, or exploitation of an elderly or vulnerable adult, including self-neglect when the legal criteria are met. This is a protective-services pathway, not a routine cleanup service; call 911 first when someone is in immediate danger.
The City’s resource page identifies local crisis-stabilization, outpatient, peer, family, and behavioral-health pathways, including 988, Ibis Healthcare, ACTS, NAMI Hillsborough, and the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay. Service scope, age limits, insurance, and capacity vary; call 911 for immediate danger or urgent medical rescue.
County Code Enforcement addresses property-maintenance and land-use conditions that threaten the life, health, safety, or general welfare of residents. Use this route for a property-code concern in unincorporated Hillsborough County; the City of Tampa has its own neighborhood-enhancement route. This is enforcement, not supportive care.
The City accepts service requests involving accumulated junk or debris on private property, building or structural violations, overgrown lots, and other neighborhood concerns. It is a municipal complaint and enforcement pathway—not a hoarding intervention, cleanup team, or emergency response.
Hillsborough County Aging Services offers referral services, in-home services, meals, transportation, and other supports for older adults. Eligible in-home services can include homemaking, personal care, meals, companionship, and caregiver respite; services use an application and assessment process and may have sliding-scale fees.
For eligible households, the County can assess needs and develop a service plan involving homemaking, personal care, meals, companionship, caregiver respite, and emergency-alert equipment. Services are not medical care and are not guaranteed; the County says fees are based on income.
The County connects people experiencing homelessness with shelter and community resources through its Continuum of Care partners. Use this when clutter, eviction, displacement, or unsafe conditions are connected to a risk of losing housing. Placement, eligibility, and availability vary.
THHI is the Continuum of Care lead agency and maintains local homeless-assistance information with its community partners. Its resource network can help with shelter, outreach, coordinated entry, and affordable-housing pathways; it does not provide hoarding-specific cleanup or guaranteed placement.
People and practical help
These listings are included because they offer a specific local or regionally useful connection. They are independent organizations; ask about current availability, cost, and approach.
The International OCD Foundation directory lists Karan Lamb, PsyD in Tampa and identifies hoarding among the related disorders addressed through evidence-based care. The directory notes that provider listings are self-reported and licensure is verified by IOCDF; ask about fit, insurance, cost, and current availability.
The Tampa affiliate describes a volunteer community that helps women and their families with cleaning, organizing, and a fresh start. This is a limited community-support pathway rather than a guaranteed hoarding intervention; ask about eligibility, application timing, privacy, and the kind of help currently available.
A private restoration provider that advertises hoarding cleanup, debris removal, content handling, odor removal, and sanitizing. Ask about rates, minimums, disposal, hazardous-material scope, privacy, and how the person living there participates in decisions; Fight the Blight does not endorse this provider.
A private provider that advertises hoarding cleanup and junk-removal services in Tampa Bay. The provider describes sorting, donation, recycling, disposal, and safety procedures. Ask about cost, scope, credentials, disposal, and whether the plan is paced with the person rather than imposed on them.
The Peer Tree is the private-pay pathway for situations that need organizing, sorting, decluttering, deep cleaning, or support for friends and family beyond grant-funded options. Ask directly about current service area, scope, availability, and cost.
Unburied is a judgment-free digital peer-support pathway for people affected by hoarding and clutter, including friends and family. It is not therapy or emergency support, but it can offer connection, tools, and ongoing momentum from home.
