Start here - Fight the Blight
Our virtual groups give people affected by hoarding and clutter concerns a place to connect from Sioux Falls, Minnehaha County, and other communities. We can help you think through what is happening and what kind of next step may fit.
Call 911 for a medical emergency, fire, or immediate threat. For behavioral-health crisis support, call or text 988. For Sioux Falls-area housing or community navigation, call 211.
First conversations
You do not need to know the perfect service name before reaching out. These organizations can help you understand the landscape and identify a next step.
South Dakota routes 988 contacts to local trained counselors who can help with emotional distress, suicidal thoughts, substance-use concerns, or worry about a loved one. This is not a cleanup provider or emergency dispatch; call 911 for immediate danger.
Minnehaha County Human Services describes possible emergency assistance for shelter, rent or deposits, past-due utilities, medications, transportation, hospital bills, and other needs. Ask about current eligibility, documents, repayment terms, and whether 211 can assist after hours.
Sioux Falls Housing provides long-term rental assistance through public housing, Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers, VASH, project-based programs, and other housing options. Confirm open waitlists, reasonable accommodations, eligibility, and availability directly; placement is not guaranteed.
The International OCD Foundation directory can be searched for clinicians, support groups, organizers, and programs that indicate an interest in hoarding-related care. Ask about experience, licensure, fees, insurance, wait time, privacy, and whether home-based or telehealth work fits.
Safety and stability
These pathways serve different situations. Read the labels carefully before calling, especially when a response may involve protective services, crisis response, municipal code, shelter or housing navigation, domestic-violence advocacy, behavioral-health support, or emergency dispatch.
Call 911 when there is immediate danger, fire, a medical emergency, violence, or a threat that cannot wait for a scheduled service. Emergency dispatch is not a hoarding-support program, counseling service, or cleanup provider.
The Link is a local community triage center created through a partnership of the City of Sioux Falls, Minnehaha County, Avera, and Sanford. It is intended for nonviolent behavioral-health crises and substance-use care needs and can connect people with treatment and support resources. It is not a cleanup provider or a substitute for 911 when there is immediate danger.
Avera Behavioral Health Hospital describes 24-hour access, psychiatric urgent care, inpatient and outpatient services, and professional assessment for people in a mental-health emergency. Contact the facility to understand the right level of care; this is qualified care, not hoarding-specific cleanup or peer support.
The South Dakota Department of Social Services map identifies Avera Behavioral Health in Sioux Falls as the regional inpatient unit and The Link as the 24-hour-or-less crisis stabilization center for Minnehaha and nearby counties. Confirm current access and intake instructions before traveling.
The City explains how tenants can report potential property-maintenance or rental-housing concerns and lists contacts for code enforcement, environmental health, fire, police non-emergency, and fair-housing questions. A complaint may lead to inspection or notice; it is not a guaranteed cleanup, relocation, or legal outcome.
Children's Home Shelter for Family Safety serves people affected by domestic violence, stalking, elder abuse, sexual assault, child abuse, and child neglect. Services include confidential crisis support, safety planning, protection-order information, and referrals. Call 911 if someone is in immediate danger.
The county directs people to the 211 Helpline for after-hours and weekend emergency on-call services. Ask 211 about shelter, rent or deposit, utilities, medications, transportation, and other local assistance; 211 is a navigation line, not a guarantee of funding, shelter, or emergency response.
South Dakota DSS receives reports of suspected child abuse or neglect and identifies Sioux Falls coverage for Minnehaha and Lincoln counties. This is a child-safety pathway, not an adult hoarding-support or cleanup service; contact local law enforcement for an after-hours child-safety emergency.
People and practical help
These listings connect Sioux Falls and Minnehaha County residents with county-seat government, housing, homelessness navigation, food, legal support, health care, organizing, or peer support. Ask about current availability, cost, scope, consent, and safety before relying on them.
The Helpline Center maintains 211 navigation and local resource guides for basic needs, food, mental health, shelter, transportation, and other support. Call 211 or use the current guides to identify a next contact, then confirm hours, eligibility, capacity, and location directly.
Bishop Dudley provides separate sleeping areas for men, women, and families, daytime services, meals, showers, laundry, phones, computers, and connections to other agencies. It operates night by night and publishes a capacity tracker, so confirm current check-in details before traveling.
Union Gospel Mission describes emergency shelter, three daily meals open to the public, food-box distribution, clothing, and case-management connections. Ask about current bed availability, program expectations, accessibility, and whether the available service fits the person’s needs.
Feeding South Dakota operates statewide hunger-relief programs and agency partnerships, with a Sioux Falls location and mobile food options. Check current pantry or mobile-distribution details and any required information before traveling; food assistance is not a cleanup or medical service.
East River Legal Services handles civil matters including housing, eviction, repairs, lockouts, utility shutoffs, public benefits, disability benefits, consumer issues, family law, and protection orders. It is legal aid, not emergency dispatch or a cleanup provider; apply to learn whether the matter qualifies.
The City’s housing division connects residents with programs intended to support decent, safe, and sanitary living conditions, including repair and rehabilitation resources. Review current program details and ask about eligibility, deadlines, property requirements, and whether the concern fits a housing program.
Falls Community Health is a city health-department clinic focused on reducing financial barriers to primary and dental care and may connect established patients with behavioral-health and substance-use counseling. Ask about current intake, payment, transportation, and appointment requirements.
The Peer Tree is the private-pay pathway for organizing help, decluttering support, groups, family guidance, and practical next steps when a grant or public program is not the right fit. Ask about scope, cost, travel, consent, safety, and whether support is available in Sioux Falls or Minnehaha County.
Unburied, from The Peer Tree, offers a judgment-free digital pathway with peer support, groups, and tools for people directly affected and for friends or family supporters. It is not therapy, a crisis service, or a substitute for emergency help.
