You do not need to know the perfect service name before reaching out. These organizations can help you identify a next step.
Utah 211 helps people find current connections for housing, mental health, legal help, older-adult services, food, transportation, and other community needs. Call or text to explain the situation and ask what is available near Salt Lake City; eligibility and openings vary by program.
Salt Lake County Human Services brings together aging and adult services, behavioral health, public health, housing-related programs, and other supports. It can be a practical starting point when clutter concerns overlap with health, caregiving, benefits, or household stability; ask which current program fits.
Salt Lake County Behavioral Health offers information and connections for behavioral-health services and directs people in crisis to 988. This is broader behavioral-health support rather than hoarding-specific care; call to ask about access, eligibility, and the right level of support.
The International OCD Foundation directory lets people search by city or ZIP code for providers and programs related to hoarding disorder. The directory is a search tool, not an endorsement; confirm licensure, approach, insurance, cost, and current availability directly.
Safety and stability
These pathways serve different situations. Read the labels carefully before calling, especially when a response may involve an investigation, enforcement, or emergency dispatch.
Utah Adult Protective Services receives reports involving suspected abuse, neglect, or exploitation of an older or vulnerable adult. Utah identifies unsafe housing and lack of utilities among possible self-neglect concerns. This is a protective-services pathway, not a routine cleanup service; call 911 for immediate danger.
Salt Lake County directs people experiencing a behavioral-health crisis to 988 and other local crisis pathways. The county’s crisis-response information describes Mobile Crisis Outreach Teams as a free alternative response available 24/7/365 through crisis lines, 988, or 911. These services are for urgent behavioral-health needs, not cleanup or ongoing hoarding treatment.
Salt Lake City Housing Stability connects residents with tenant resources, homeowner repair help, homelessness engagement, and other housing pathways. Call to ask what applies to the household’s situation; programs have separate eligibility and availability rules.
Salt Lake County’s housing resource page points residents toward Utah 211, Utah Community Action, Housing Connect, The Road Home, and legal or housing help. It is useful when clutter concerns connect to eviction risk, homelessness, repairs, or a need for benefits; confirm the current entry point before relying on any program.
Salt Lake City’s mySLC service-request system can route non-emergency reports involving abandoned belongings, trash, and other city service concerns. It is a municipal reporting pathway, not a person-centered cleanup or hoarding-support program; ask about the response before submitting a request.
Salt Lake County Aging and Adult Services provides connections that may include caregiver support, legal services, housing liaison help, Medicare counseling, and other aging-related resources. It may be relevant when the person affected is older or a caregiver needs guidance; ask about current eligibility and the right program.

Unburied is a judgment-free digital peer-support pathway for people affected by hoarding and clutter, including friends and family. It is not therapy or emergency support, but it can offer connection, tools, and ongoing momentum from home.
