First conversations
You do not need to know the perfect service name before reaching out. These organizations can help you identify a next step.
Metro Social Services helps Davidson County residents navigate economic stability, family support, mental-health barriers, nutrition, life-skills training, and other human-services resources. It is a practical starting point when the situation involves more than clutter alone; ask about current eligibility and appointment requirements.
The Metro Public Health Department offers mental-health counseling and services at no cost, with appointments and accommodated walk-ins at several public-health centers. Insurance is not required. This is broader behavioral-health support rather than hoarding-specific care; call ahead about access and fit.
The International OCD Foundation directory lists the Nashville OCD and Anxiety Treatment Center as a specialty outpatient clinic serving children, adolescents, adults, and families, with services for hoarding disorder and related concerns. The directory notes that sessions may be in person or virtual and that sliding-scale or student rates may be available; confirm current cost, fit, and intake directly.
Safety and stability
These pathways serve different situations. Read the labels carefully before calling, especially when a response may involve an investigation, enforcement, or emergency dispatch.
Tennessee Adult Protective Services receives reports involving suspected abuse, neglect, or exploitation of an adult. Nashville’s Office of Family Safety notes that unsafe or unsanitary living conditions can be a sign of neglect. This is a protective-services pathway, not a routine cleanup service; call 911 for immediate danger.
Metro Codes investigates property-standard, building, and some zoning violations affecting health, welfare, and safety. Nashville’s code guidance specifically includes unsanitary conditions, trash, junk, debris, and unsafe structures. This is an enforcement route—not a support group, therapist, or cleanup team.
Metro Housing Division provides information about affordable housing and directs people at risk of homelessness to coordinated-entry pathways. The page lists separate family and individual entry lines; ask which route fits the household and whether clutter, eviction, or unsafe conditions affect eligibility.
The Office of Homeless Services oversees local housing-response work, including permanent supportive housing and connections for people leaving homelessness. It is a housing-stability pathway when the home situation is connected to displacement or homelessness; placement and availability are not guaranteed.
Metro Public Health directs people in crisis to 988, Mobile Crisis, and the Family and Children’s Service crisis line. These are crisis pathways, not hoarding treatment or cleanup services; call 911 for life-threatening danger, fire, urgent rescue, or a medical emergency.
The Family Safety Center provides free and confidential safety planning, crisis intervention, counseling, shelter and housing assistance, support groups, and referrals. It is particularly relevant when abuse, elder abuse, coercion, or household safety concerns are part of the picture; it is not a hoarding-specific cleanup service.

Metro Waste Services explains how residents can take bulky items to convenience centers and identifies current no-charge or fee-based disposal rules for items such as mattresses, tires, and scrap metal. This can support a planned, person-led next step; it is not a hoarding intervention or in-home removal service.
The Peer Tree is the private-pay pathway for situations that need organizing, sorting, decluttering, deep cleaning, or support for friends and family beyond grant-funded options. Ask directly about current service area, scope, availability, and cost.
Unburied is a judgment-free digital peer-support pathway for people affected by hoarding and clutter, including friends and family. It is not therapy or emergency support, but it can offer connection, tools, and ongoing momentum from home.
