You do not need to know the perfect service name before reaching out. These organizations can help you identify a next step.
Tennessee 211 helps people find current connections for housing, utilities, food, mental health, legal help, protective services, and other community needs. Memphis’s city guide directs residents to the Tennessee resource directory; explain the situation and ask what is available near you.
The City of Memphis guide explains where to begin with 211 for social-service support and 311 for city issues such as property violations, trash, recycling, and litter. It is a useful orientation point when a household concern involves more than clutter alone.
The Aging Commission is the Area Agency on Aging and Disability for Shelby and surrounding counties. Safety and stability
These pathways serve different situations. Read the labels carefully before calling, especially when a response may involve an investigation, enforcement, or emergency dispatch.
Tennessee Adult Protective Services receives reports involving suspected abuse, neglect, or exploitation of an adult. This can be relevant when unsafe living conditions involve self-neglect or a vulnerable adult. It is a protective-services pathway, not a routine cleanup service; call 911 for immediate danger.
Tennessee’s 988 pathway offers free, confidential call, text, and chat support for mental-health, substance-use, suicide, and other emotional distress. Memphis also lists Alliance Healthcare’s adult crisis line at 901-577-9400. These are crisis services, not cleanup or ongoing hoarding treatment; call 911 for a life-threatening emergency.
Memphis’s 311 service portal accepts non-emergency reports involving property violations, trash, recycling, litter, and bulk-item pickup. It is a municipal service-request pathway, not a person-centered cleanup or hoarding-support program; call 911 for emergencies.
