These pathways serve different situations. Read the labels carefully before calling, especially when a response may involve crisis care, protective services, shelter, housing rules, legal advocacy, or emergency dispatch.
Call 911 for a fire, medical emergency, violence, immediate threat, or dangerous condition that cannot wait for a scheduled service. Emergency dispatch is not a hoarding-support program, counseling service, or cleanup provider.
Call or text 988, or use online chat, for emotional distress, suicidal thoughts, mental-health or substance-use crisis, or concern about a loved one. Call 911 for immediate danger.
Wood County crisis interventionists provide listening, problem solving, referrals, and mobile-crisis assessment when appropriate. The county describes mobile response for people experiencing a mental-health crisis; it is not a cleanup or housing-placement service.
Wisconsin DHS lists Wood County as a 24-hour adult protective services reporting route. A clutter or fire concern may require a broader safety plan; it is not by itself proof of abuse. Call 911 for a life-threatening emergency.
Wood County receives reports of suspected child abuse and neglect through its access line and explains that after-hours concerns should go to law enforcement. Call 911 when a child faces immediate danger.

Shirley's House of Hope states that it provides three to 30 days of emergency shelter for women and children while they arrange a longer-term program or housing. Ask about current safety, accessibility, children, transportation, and program requirements.
Mary's Place provides transitional housing, case management, mentoring, job referrals, and financial guidance. Its site says it is not an emergency shelter and requires an application and interview, so use 211 or another shelter route for an immediate overnight need.
UW-Stevens Point's current student resource page identifies Frederic Ozanam Transitional Shelter as a Marshfield shelter. Confirm the current location, eligibility, capacity, and intake process directly before traveling because shelter details can change.
The Marshfield Community Development Authority explains public housing and Housing Choice Voucher access. Ask about current waiting lists, application documents, eligibility, unit standards, accessibility, and whether the concern needs a code or emergency response instead.
