You do not need to know the perfect service name before reaching out. These organizations can help you understand the landscape and identify a next step.
Nebraska 211 is a statewide information and referral pathway for health and human services, legal services, community programs, disaster services, aging supports, and government resources. Call 211 or search the current database for Lancaster County options. Confirm eligibility, capacity, hours, transportation, and referral requirements directly.
Defy the Cycle is a Lincoln practice whose published focus includes OCD, hoarding or excessive acquisition paired with saving, and body dysmorphic disorder. It describes clinicians with related specialties and a local office. This is clinical care, not organizing, deep cleaning, or emergency response. Ask about fit, current intake, cost, insurance, and scope.
CenterPointe describes integrated behavioral health, substance-use, primary-care, housing, street-outreach, and crisis-response services in Lincoln. It can be a useful local doorway when the situation involves mental health, housing instability, or a need for outreach. It is not a guaranteed hoarding-specific organizer or cleanup provider.
The Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department works with partners to protect and promote public health and provides local health information, environmental-health resources, and connections to services. Use it when a concern involves health conditions, housing environments, or a need that does not fit one service name. It is not emergency dispatch or a cleanup company.
The International OCD Foundation's hoarding directory helps people search for therapists, programs, support groups, organizers, and task forces. A directory listing is not an Alliance endorsement or credential guarantee. Ask about hoarding-specific experience, consent-based pacing, privacy, insurance, fees, and scope before choosing a provider.
Safety and stability
These pathways serve different situations. Read the labels carefully before calling, especially when a response may involve protective services, housing screening, code enforcement, shelter, or emergency dispatch.
The City of Lincoln identifies CenterPointe as a local crisis resource with a 24/7 crisis line and a weekday walk-in location. CenterPointe says its crisis and response services help people experiencing mental-health emergencies and connect them to next steps. It is not a cleanup provider. Call 911 for immediate danger or a medical emergency.
Call or text 988 for emotional distress, a mental-health or substance-use crisis, or concern about someone else. 988 is not a cleanup provider and does not guarantee an in-home response. Call 911 for immediate danger, fire, violence, or a medical emergency.
Nebraska APS responds to reports involving vulnerable adults, including neglect by others or self-neglect, abuse, and exploitation. APS can investigate and connect people to food, clothing, utilities, housing, behavioral health, aging, and caregiver supports when the legal criteria are met. Use it for a genuine protective concern, not as a general cleanup referral.
Lincoln Building and Safety works with city and county agencies to ensure fire, housing, and building codes are met. This is a regulatory pathway, not consent-based support. Use it for a genuine health, safety, occupancy, or property concern and pair it with respectful support when possible; confirm current procedures before filing.
Lincoln's Continuum of Care brings together street outreach, shelter, homeless prevention, transitional housing, rapid rehousing, permanent supportive housing, and coordinated entry. The city also identifies the Lincoln Prevention Assistance Common Fund for rent, mortgage, utility, and other housing-stability needs. Start with a participating access point and confirm current funding and eligibility.
People's City Mission is identified as a primary Lincoln shelter for single adults and families, with emergency and transitional housing, meals, case management, social-service assistance, and a free clinic for uninsured residents. Confirm current intake, length of stay, household rules, and capacity before relying on a bed.
Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach provides meals and outreach that connect people experiencing hunger or homelessness with basic, emergency, and health resources. The City and Nebraska DHHS identify it as a local access point for homelessness prevention and shelter-related help. It is not hoarding-specific care or a guaranteed housing placement.
Friendship Home provides emergency shelter, transitional housing, safety planning, and crisis services for people affected by domestic or intimate-partner violence. It is a safety pathway when abuse or violence is part of the situation, not a hoarding-specific service. Use its confidential process and crisis line when safety is the concern.
Nebraska's veterans and shelter directory identifies Fresh Start in Lincoln as a residential program for homeless women, offering food, clothing, case management, supportive services, education, referrals, and community support. It is not a general shelter for every household or a hoarding-specific service. Confirm current eligibility and availability.
Call 911 when there is immediate danger, fire, a medical emergency, violence, or a threat that cannot wait for a scheduled service. Emergency dispatch is not a hoarding-support program, behavioral-health counseling service, or cleanup provider. When the situation is not immediately dangerous, begin with Fight the Blight or a local support, care, or navigation pathway.
People and practical help
These listings offer connections for care, education, housing, benefits, utilities, home repair, organizing, or disposal. They are independent organizations; ask about current availability, cost, scope, consent, and safety before relying on them.
The Lincoln Housing Authority provides affordable housing to qualifying families under financial stress and describes public housing options in Lincoln. Housing is limited and program requirements apply. Ask about waitlists, reasonable accommodations, unit condition, support needs, and the difference between public housing and other rental assistance.
Lincoln's housing programs include 0% interest rehabilitation loans, emergency repair assistance, lead-hazard control, and a Healthy Homes Grant for qualifying health and safety hazards. The city's published policies exclude cleaning as an eligible expense, so this is repair and hazard mitigation rather than cleanup funding. Confirm current program terms.
Lincoln's housing and utility assistance pathway identifies LPAC and partner resources for rent, mortgage, utility, and other emergency housing needs, including help from Community Action, Family Service, Catholic Social Services, utility providers, and other community agencies. Funding is limited and documentation rules apply; ask for the current access point.
Community Action Partnership describes emergency services for rent, utilities, and deposits, homelessness prevention, supportive housing, tenant services, financial coaching, and weatherization. It is a practical stabilization pathway, not hoarding-specific clinical care or cleanup. Confirm current applications, documents, and funds.
Aging Partners serves older adults, people with disabilities, caregivers, and advocates with information and referral, case management, legal and benefits counseling, home-delivered meals, small home projects, transportation, and other supports. It can help organize a broader safety and independence plan, but it is not hoarding-specific therapy or cleanup.
Lincoln Transportation and Utilities provides water, wastewater, solid-waste, recycling, and disposal systems. The city's facilities include a transfer station, landfill, yard-waste composting, recyclables sites, and guidance for hazardous materials and special waste. Confirm accepted materials, load requirements, hours, fees, and safe handling before moving heavy or hazardous items.
The local health department and Lincoln Transportation and Utilities publish guidance for hazardous materials and special waste, including chemicals, paints, fuels, pesticides, mercury, and other products that should not enter ordinary trash. The guide identifies materials that are not accepted at some facilities. Confirm the correct destination before transporting anything.
Aging Partners describes small home projects that help eligible Lincoln clients remain safely at home, plus senior-center transportation and Lancaster County rural transit connections. It is a practical support pathway for older adults and people with disabilities, not a hoarding-specific service. Confirm current availability, service limits, and scheduling.
The Peer Tree offers nonclinical hoarding and clutter support, including organizing help, groups, family guidance, and practical next steps. Ask about current availability, service area, scope, pacing, privacy, and fees before beginning. The Peer Tree is a separate private-pay pathway from Fight the Blight's nonprofit programming.
Unburied, from The Peer Tree, is a judgment-free digital peer-support pathway for people affected by hoarding and clutter concerns and for friends and family. It can offer ongoing connection, tools, and momentum from Lincoln or anywhere else. It is not therapy, clinical care, or emergency support.
The IOCDF organizer directory can help identify organizers who state that they work with hoarding-related concerns. A directory listing is not an endorsement or credential guarantee. Ask about experience, consent-based pacing, privacy, item decisions, disposal practices, cost, and scope before hiring.
