First conversations
You do not need to know the perfect service name before reaching out. These organizations can help you understand the landscape and identify a next step.
UK HealthCare describes outpatient, acute-care, and inpatient psychiatric services for adults and adolescents in Lexington. Ask about the appropriate intake route, insurance, wait time, and whether a concern belongs with outpatient care, an emergency department, or a crisis service.
Kentucky's 988 system connects callers, texters, and chat users with trained crisis counselors and can make a warm handoff to local crisis services when needed. It is not a cleanup service or a substitute for 911 during immediate danger.
The city's Office of Homelessness Prevention and Intervention coordinates providers and offers information about shelter, food, employment, housing, and other basic needs. Use its help pathway when several needs overlap or you are not sure where to start.
Community Action Council provides programs that can include housing stabilization, rental and utility help, family supports, and other services for Lexington-Fayette residents. Ask which program is open, what documents are needed, and whether funding remains available.
The International OCD Foundation directory can be searched for clinicians, support groups, organizers, and programs that indicate an interest in hoarding-related care. Ask about experience, licensure, fees, insurance, wait time, privacy, and whether home-based or telehealth work fits.
Safety and stability
These pathways serve different situations. Read the labels carefully before calling, especially when a response may involve crisis care, survivor advocacy, shelter, code enforcement, housing repair, homelessness navigation, or emergency dispatch.
Call 911 when there is immediate danger, fire, a medical emergency, violence, or a threat that cannot wait for a scheduled service. Emergency dispatch is not a hoarding-support program, counseling service, or cleanup provider.
Call or text 988 for confidential behavioral-health crisis support and connection to Kentucky's local crisis network. It is not emergency dispatch, licensed therapy, or a cleanup service; call 911 for immediate danger, fire, or a medical emergency.
Lexington's E911 system dispatches fire, police, and EMS and can receive text-to-911 messages when a voice call is not possible. Use it for an emergency, threat to life or property, fire, or medical crisis; use the police non-emergency number for delayed reports.
UK HealthCare identifies its EmPATH unit as an immediate-care pathway for adults experiencing an acute mental-health crisis, with behavioral-health treatment and connection to ongoing care. Call 911 or go to an emergency department for immediate medical danger.
GreenHouse17's hotline is answered by certified domestic-violence advocates who can help with safety planning, support, and emergency shelter options. Use the hotline rather than an online form when communication may be monitored by an abuser.
The Nest describes counseling, legal advocacy, and support groups for survivors of intimate-partner violence. Its page directs people seeking shelter to GreenHouse17's 24/7 crisis line; this is a survivor-support pathway, not a general housing or cleanup service.
Lexington Code Enforcement addresses reported violations involving homes, apartments, businesses, yards, and lots. A report may begin a municipal process but is not consent-based support or a guaranteed cleanup; ask about the least disruptive appropriate pathway.
The city describes a program that can help eligible owner-occupants address problems listed in a Code Enforcement notice. Ask about household income, proof of ownership and occupancy, available funds, and whether the program can resolve the full set of violations.
The city housing advocate helps residents identify housing needs, understand code-enforcement or eviction questions, find affordable housing, and connect with landlords who may work with specific barriers. It is a navigation service, not a guarantee of a unit or legal representation.
Lexington's help page directs residents to current community resources and 211 for confidential assistance with shelters, meals, clothing, and other basic needs. Availability can change quickly, so confirm hours, access, transportation, and intake before traveling.
People and practical help
These listings connect Lexington and Fayette County residents with housing, homelessness navigation, food, aging, health, transit, public benefits, disposal, peer support, and community resources. Ask about current availability, cost, scope, consent, and safety before relying on them.
The Lexington Housing Authority describes public housing and Housing Choice Voucher programs for eligible households, including income-based rent and private-market voucher assistance. Confirm which waiting lists are open, preferences, accessibility, and required documents directly.
Community Action Council is a local pathway for housing stabilization and related supports. Ask whether help is available for rent, utilities, water, move-in costs, or another specific need, and whether funding or waitlists currently limit intake.

Lextran operates Lexington's public bus system and publishes current route, service-alert, and mobility information. Confirm the route, stop, fare, and service conditions before planning a housing, food, medical, or support visit.
Lextran Wheels provides shared-ride, door-to-door transportation for eligible Fayette County residents who cannot use fixed-route service because of a disability. Lextran describes an application and medical-verification process, a 21-day eligibility decision, and current fares and reservation rules.
Lexington Public Library offers free access to information, computers, Wi-Fi, e-books, online learning, events, and one-on-one librarian help. It is not a crisis, housing, or cleanup service, but can be a practical place to connect with information and a welcoming community space.
The city explains regular trash and recycling, free bulky-item pickup for city-service households, scheduled special collections, and transfer-station rules. Confirm accepted materials, timing, fees, and hazardous-waste limits before setting items out or arranging a load.
