You do not need to know the perfect service name before reaching out. These organizations can help you identify a next step.
United Way 211 connects people with current community and government resources across the Kansas City region, including housing, utilities, food, health, transportation, and crisis supports. Call or search the database to explain what is happening; eligibility, hours, and openings vary by program.
Kansas City’s health department lists local behavioral-health providers and community partners, including counseling, mental-health care, substance-use services, and support groups. It is broader behavioral-health navigation rather than hoarding-specific care; call to ask about fit, coverage, and current access.
The Kansas City Center for Anxiety Treatment is a specialty clinic focused on anxiety, OCD, and related challenges. Its published materials identify hoarding disorder among the concerns encountered by its clinical team. Confirm current intake, licensure for the person’s state, insurance, cost, and whether the available approach fits.
The International OCD Foundation directory lets people search by city or ZIP code for providers and programs related to hoarding disorder. The directory is a search tool, not an endorsement; confirm licensure, approach, insurance, cost, and current availability directly.
Safety and stability
These pathways serve different situations. Read the labels carefully before calling, especially when a response may involve an investigation, enforcement, or emergency dispatch.
Missouri Adult Protective Services receives reports involving suspected abuse, neglect, self-neglect, or exploitation of eligible older adults and adults with disabilities. The state describes self-neglect as failure to meet essential needs that jeopardizes health, safety, or well-being. This is a protective-services pathway, not a routine cleanup service; call 911 for immediate danger.
Missouri’s 988 service offers free, confidential call, text, and chat support for mental-health, substance-use, suicide, and other emotional distress. Crisis specialists can connect people to follow-up resources or mobile crisis response when appropriate. Call 911 for a life-threatening emergency.
Kansas City’s Housing and Community Development Department links residents to shelter, eviction help, home-repair help, healthy-homes information, housing searches, and the city’s homelessness-response work. Program rules, funding, and capacity vary; ask which pathway matches the household’s situation.
Kansas City’s tenant-resource page describes eviction-prevention legal support and the Healthy Homes Inspection Program for rental-property conditions affecting health and safety. This is a housing and code pathway, not hoarding treatment; city jurisdiction and program criteria apply.

Kansas City’s Zero KC work describes shelter, outreach, homelessness prevention, and supportive-housing pathways. Use it when unsafe clutter is connected to displacement or homelessness; access, eligibility, and placement are not guaranteed.

The Peer Tree is the private-pay pathway for situations that need organizing, sorting, decluttering, deep cleaning, or support for friends and family beyond grant-funded options. Ask directly about current service area, scope, availability, and cost.
