You do not need to know the perfect service name before reaching out. These organizations can help you understand the landscape and identify a next step.
Florida 211 connects people with local food, housing, utility, health, transportation, employment, mental-health, disaster, and crisis resources. Enter a Jacksonville or Duval County location when searching, and confirm current eligibility, language access, hours, and referral availability.
The City of Jacksonville describes the Mental Health Resource Center as providing emergency evaluation, crisis stabilization, case management, social rehabilitation, medication management, outpatient services, and programs for people experiencing homelessness. East and west Duval locations serve different areas; call first to confirm the right site and current access.
Jacksonville Senior Services lists community and senior centers, an Independent Living Program, senior companions, homemaking, transportation, and caregiver-related supports. Ask about age, income, disability, homebound, respite, and service-area requirements; these programs are not an automatic free cleanup service.
The city’s Independent Living Program provides respite care, volunteer support, and education for eligible homebound older adults and caregivers. It may help reduce isolation and caregiver strain while a broader plan is developed, but it is not hoarding-specific treatment or a whole-home cleanup service.
OCD Jacksonville is an IOCDF affiliate and nonprofit that describes support, education, treatment-navigation, and family resources. Its support-group page includes online group information. Hoarding may be relevant as an OCD-related concern, but group content is not a substitute for individualized care; confirm current schedule and fit.
The IOCDF directory lists Ana Trujillo in Jacksonville and describes virtual therapy using ERP and inference-based CBT for OCD. The listing is not an endorsement and does not promise hoarding-specific treatment. Confirm current licensure, availability, insurance, fees, service area, and fit directly.
Safety and stability
These pathways serve different situations. Read the labels carefully before calling, especially when a response may involve protective services, housing screening, code enforcement, or emergency dispatch.
Call or text 988 for immediate behavioral-health crisis support. Counselors can listen, help with safety planning, and connect callers to local services. This is not a hoarding-specific service or cleanup line; call 911 for a medical emergency, fire, or immediate threat to life.
Florida’s Department of Children and Families says suspected abuse, neglect, or exploitation of a vulnerable adult should be reported to the Florida Abuse Hotline. Use 911 first if the person is in immediate danger. APS is a protective-services pathway, not a cleanup or hoarding-treatment service; ask what information is needed and what happens after a report.
Jacksonville’s code-compliance division enforces property safety, maintenance, nuisance, and zoning codes, including excessive trash and junk, obstructed systems, and unsafe conditions. Call 630-CITY for a request or inspection. This is an enforcement pathway rather than a consent-based support or cleanup program; ask about the process and possible consequences when safety allows.
The city’s Housing and Community Development division describes financial assistance for safe, quality affordable housing, homeownership pathways, infrastructure, and homeless prevention and services. It is a system-navigation pathway rather than a hoarding-specific service; confirm current programs, income limits, application windows, and service area.
The City of Jacksonville’s emergency financial-assistance program may help eligible households with a qualifying emergency and directs applicants to bring identification and Duval County address documentation. It is not a cleanup service and funds are limited; confirm current application windows, eligible costs, and other available resources.
The Duval County Clerk provides information about mental-health and substance-use court processes, including crisis-related legal pathways. This is not a routine support, therapy, or cleanup referral. Read the criteria carefully and seek direct guidance from qualified professionals; use 911 for immediate danger.
The Building Inspection Division protects public health and safety through enforcement of the Florida Building Code and Jacksonville building ordinances. It may be relevant when clutter or disrepair intersects with structural, electrical, plumbing, or occupancy concerns, but it is not a hoarding intervention or cleanup program.
People and practical help
These listings offer local connections for care, education, housing, organizing, or disposal. They are independent organizations; ask about current availability, cost, scope, consent, and safety before relying on them.
Jacksonville’s Solid Waste Division provides residential solid-waste and recycling services and links to household bulk collection. Confirm whether the address is in the city service area, what items are accepted, how much can be placed out, and whether a special request or fee is required before setting anything curbside.
The city’s Clean It Up, Green It Up materials explain how to report litter, illegal dumping, and bulky-item concerns and how residents can participate in neighborhood cleanup efforts. It does not provide hoarding-specific cleanup or emergency response; use the appropriate city channel and confirm current service details.
Jacksonville Area Legal Aid provides civil legal help to eligible residents across North Florida, including housing and eviction-related assistance. It may be relevant when clutter or safety concerns intersect with landlord disputes, eviction, discrimination, benefits, or loss of housing. Apply or call to confirm current intake and deadlines.
JaxStableHousing connects people facing eviction, rent arrears, or utility problems with coalition partners offering emergency assistance, legal guidance, and referrals. Assistance is not guaranteed and may depend on funding, household circumstances, and documentation; start with the current intake instructions.
DESC describes rent, security-deposit, and utility assistance for households meeting its age, children, or disability criteria. It notes limits on overdue mortgages and eviction summonses. Confirm current funding, required documents, service area, and whether another housing or legal pathway is more appropriate.
The city’s current senior-services directory brings together local aging, home-care, transportation, nutrition, caregiver, and community resources. It can help identify a practical support pathway when a home situation involves age, disability, isolation, or caregiver strain; verify every provider and program directly.
The International OCD Foundation directory can help search for therapists, programs, support groups, professional organizers, and task forces. IOCDF says listings are not endorsements and information can change; confirm credentials, hoarding-specific experience, fees, insurance, service area, privacy, and fit directly.
The Peer Tree offers nonclinical hoarding and clutter support, including organizing help, groups, family guidance, and practical next steps. Ask about current availability, service area, scope, pacing, privacy, and fees before beginning. The Peer Tree is a separate private-pay pathway from Fight the Blight’s nonprofit programming.
Unburied, from The Peer Tree, is a judgment-free digital peer-support pathway for people affected by hoarding and clutter concerns and for friends and family. It can offer ongoing connection, tools, and momentum from Jacksonville or anywhere else. It is not therapy, clinical care, or emergency support.
A note before you begin
Sometimes the next step is a conversation. Sometimes it is a safety question, a housing concern, a call to an aging-service navigator, or simply finding someone who will listen without judgment. Start with the doorway that feels most workable.
