Start here - Fight the Blight
Fight the Blight is the nonprofit front door and offers virtual peer-support groups; ask about current fit and capacity from Buckhannon or elsewhere. The Peer Tree is a separate private-pay pathway; confirm scope, service area, availability, and fees. Unburied is a digital peer-support pathway, not therapy or emergency support. Local listings are independent options, not endorsements; confirm access, eligibility, cost, and fit directly.
For immediate danger, fire, rescue, or urgent medical response, call 911. For emotional distress or a behavioral-health crisis, call or text 988, or call Help4WV. For suspected abuse or neglect involving a child or vulnerable adult, West Virginia DoHS accepts reports around the clock. Routine offices and referrals are not emergency dispatch.

Unburied is a digital peer-support pathway for people affected by hoarding and clutter concerns and for friends and family. It supports connection and ongoing peer support, not therapy, emergency response, or local case management.
WV 211 can help look for current food, housing, utility, transportation, health, and family-service options in Upshur County. Call 211 or 1-833-848-9905, or text a ZIP code to 898-211. Options and eligibility vary; the referral line does not guarantee openings or assistance and is not emergency dispatch.
Safety and stability
These pathways serve different situations. Read the labels carefully before calling, especially when a response may involve crisis care, protective services, shelter, housing rules, legal advocacy, or emergency dispatch.

West Virginia's Bureau for Behavioral Health lists Help4WV for people and families seeking connection to mental-health, substance-use, treatment, peer-support, and crisis-care resources. Call or text 1-844-435-7498. It is not 911 dispatch or a substitute for urgent medical care.
The West Virginia Department of Human Services lists a centralized 24/7 hotline for reports of suspected abuse or neglect involving children and vulnerable adults: 1-800-352-6513. It is for reporting concerns, not general home-safety inspections, hoarding cleanup, or emergency dispatch. Call 911 for immediate danger or urgent medical response.
People and practical help
These listings connect the local community with housing, food, behavioral health, benefits, transit, survivor advocacy, disability support, peer support, and practical resources. Ask about current availability, cost, scope, consent, and safety before relying on them.
Community Care lists a clinic and pharmacy at 37 West Main Street, Buckhannon, phone 304-473-5600. Posted clinic hours are Monday–Thursday 8 a.m.–8 p.m. and Friday 8 a.m.–5 p.m.; weekends are closed. The provider says its pharmacy participates in the 340B discount-drug program for qualifying patients. Confirm current appointments, accepted coverage, eligibility, and costs. For emergencies, use 911 or an emergency department.
Community Care identifies CareXpress as a nearby walk-in clinic at 77 West Main Street, Buckhannon, with no appointment required and seven-day service. Call the clinic or Community Care first to confirm current hours, wait, coverage, and costs. It is described for non-emergency conditions; use 911 or an emergency department for urgent danger or severe symptoms.
WVU Medicine lists St. Joseph's Hospital Emergency Department at 1 Amalia Drive, Buckhannon, phone 304-473-2000, with emergency medicine on site. Hospital care is not a substitute for calling 911 when dispatch or transport is needed. Ask the hospital about insurance, financial assistance, and charges when appropriate.
WVU Medicine says its Senior Life Solutions program at St. Joseph's Hospital supports older adults, typically age 65 and over, with outpatient group and individual therapy, psychiatric evaluation, and medication management. The program is at 102 Pallottine Drive, Building P; call 304-460-7455 to ask about current eligibility, referral, insurance, cost, and availability. It is not emergency care.
State and public-health directories list Upshur-Buckhannon Health Department at 15 North Locust Street, Buckhannon, phone 304-472-2810. Contact the department to verify current services, hours, appointment needs, insurance or fees, and accessibility before visiting. A public-health office is not emergency medical care.
The West Virginia WIC clinic directory lists Upshur County WIC at 33 Southfork Plaza Drive, Buckhannon, phone 304-472-4714, with posted weekday hours. Call first to confirm appointments, current hours, eligibility, and available services. WIC is a nutrition program, not emergency food or medical care.
The state lists the Upshur County DoHS office at 34 Auction Lane, Buckhannon, phone 304-473-4230, weekdays 8:30 a.m.–5 p.m. Listed programs include SNAP, Medicaid, WVCHIP, non-emergency medical transportation, emergency assistance, LIEAP, adult protective services, and homeless services. Eligibility and current application procedures vary; call or use WV PATH to ask what is available. The office is not emergency dispatch.
West Virginia PATH is the online portal for applying for and managing public-assistance programs. The Upshur County DoHS office lists SNAP, Medicaid, WVCHIP, child-care assistance, LIEAP, and other services. Use the portal or contact the county office for help; submitting an application does not guarantee eligibility or payment. Not emergency dispatch.
The Housing Authority lists its office at 23½ Hinkle Drive, Buckhannon, phone 304-472-1305, and provides an online public-housing application portal. The portal has displayed the public-housing application list as open, but openings and status can change. Contact the Authority to confirm which programs are accepting applications, eligibility, required documents, and expected wait time. This is not emergency shelter.
HUD's West Virginia page links help for homelessness, affordable housing, rent and eviction resources, housing counselors, and housing-quality questions. HUD says people who are homeless or at risk should contact 211 for a local provider; the locator does not itself provide housing or promise a bed, funding, or response time. Mountain CAP describes its Upshur County Family Support Center as a community hub for families, with parenting and life-skills workshops, parent support groups, a resource navigator, tutoring, English classes, employment-readiness help, and emergency baby and hygiene supplies. Contact Mountain CAP through its current program page to confirm intake, location, hours, eligibility, and available supplies before visiting.
West Virginia's Family Resource Network directory lists Upshur County's network at 304-473-1051 and describes local coordination to connect children and families with community resources. Ask which local organizations and programs currently fit a need; verify each service, cost, eligibility, and opening directly with its provider.
Mountain CAP lists its Repair and Replace Program as serving Upshur, Braxton, and Webster counties. Contact the agency to ask whether current funding and intake are available, which repairs qualify, who is eligible, whether any contribution applies, and what property documentation is needed. Listing the program does not guarantee a project or response time.
Mountain CAP lists Supportive Services for Veteran Families among its programs serving Upshur County and several nearby counties. Veterans and households should contact the program to confirm current service area, eligibility, intake, and available assistance. The listing does not promise immediate shelter, funds, or housing placement.
Country Roads Transit describes a Buckhannon loop and Upshur County transportation, including route deviation and reserved demand-response trips. Its site says riders should call about one day ahead for some services; times and prices can differ by route and distance. The state-supported resource center can help people explore aging- and disability-related services, supports, and ways to remain safe at home. Ask about current Upshur County options, screening, cost, and availability. It is not a local walk-in office or emergency response service.
The Upshur County Senior Center is based in Buckhannon and welcomes county residents age 60 and older and their spouses. Its program pages describe meals and social activities, with additional services to ask about, including transportation, in-home support, and benefits navigation. Some curbside or yard-waste services depend on being within the City's service area. This is ordinary waste service, not a hoarding cleanout or hazardous-materials service.

The West Virginia Judiciary identifies Buckhannon as the Upshur County seat and lists county court and clerk contacts at the courthouse. Contact the relevant clerk to verify current office hours, public-record access, forms, and filing fees. Court staff do not provide legal advice; people seeking civil legal help can contact Legal Aid of West Virginia.
Legal Aid of West Virginia lists Upshur County among the counties served by its Elkins office. The organization says its services are free for eligible clients, though court filing fees may apply. Apply online or call 1-866-255-4370 during posted intake hours; call rather than use online intake if a hearing or filing deadline is within 10 days. Legal Aid does not handle criminal cases and does not provide emergency dispatch.
